View Beautiful Treasures From the J Paul Getty Museum

The J Paul Getty Museum located in Los Angeles, CA is one of the great admission free treasures that visitors can enjoy year round (with parking only $5).

To begin your journey through the Getty, you are introduced to two choices, wait for the moving tram that arrives about every 15 minutes or wear some walking shoes and take a peaceful hike up the hillside walkway. Either way, you get the unique opportunity to see the surrounding landscape of Los Angeles, from an escalated view. The tram offers wide windows to curious passengers and the walkway path allows hikers the opportunity to see the view in a slower paced, “smell the flowers” manner. I prefer the walkway because it offers exercise, a tranquil beautiful view and I am often greeted by butterflies and other wild life along the way.

The museum is home to a collection of artwork from the Middle Ages to the present day and is beautifully adorned by a vibrant 134,000 square foot garden and lush green surrounds. Be prepared to enjoy everything from paintings, sculptures, tapestries, illuminated manuscripts and photographs. Some of the most popular attractions include work by Van Gogh and Monet. Take the time to stroll the center on your own, with loved ones or in a guided tour.

This $1 billion structure is perfect for families as well. It offers everything from storytelling and family workshops to a special Family Room. And for those with an artistic curiosity, there is even a room that offers people the opportunity to sketch sculptures while visitors can admire your handy work! Feel like a true artist and entertainer sketching away at your leisure.

This is a sculpture of a mother shielding her son. It is a beautiful representation of the ultimate nurturing mother figure.

This statue is a representation of “Venus & Mars” in love. Venus is the Goddess of Love and Mars is the God of War. It was created to show that love truly conquers all, even war.

This bed caught my eye for its exceptional beauty and royal quality. If I remember correctly, it is from the 15th century and its luxurious style is truly timeless.

This is the famous Monet “Wheatstacks” painting.  It is one of my favorites because of it’s simplicity and coloring.  When seen in person, the colors come alive and are phenomenal.  (A cellphone camera phone can only do so much!) 

This is a statue of the bust of Christ. It is striking and unforgettable.

And, saving the one that stands out most prominently in my mind for last is this statue. It is a young hooded girl who represents youth, innocence and purity.
